Aliyah Mae Pierce arrived at 2:27pm on Jan. 4, 2012. 7 lbs, 15 oz and 19 inches long. We were due to have her on Jan. 1...which left us with lots of anticipation and excitement about whether she was going to be a 2011 or 2012 baby. We really got excited about the idea of her coming right before midnight or even being the first baby of the year. She had other plans however and decided to stay put until the new year was well on it's way. After a few days of waiting, we decided to go ahead with being induced. It turned out to be a PERFECT day!!!! I was very comfortable all day and by the time I was ready to push Aliyah came only 20-30 minutes later with no problem at all. Compared to the difficult labor I experienced with Jalen, this was a "breeze." It's amazing how much love you experience the moment they enter the world. She is SO precious!!!

New Years Eve

Baby Aliyah's due date was 1/1/2012, so needless to say it was a quiet New Years for us. We were planning and hoping to celebrate it in the hospital, but when the time came and she wasn't here we (or I should say "I") just didn't have the energy to stay up until midnight. We did have the opportunity to see some friends while they were in town - wish you ALL lived here!!!!

Christmas Round Two

Christmas was a little different this year, as we stayed home for the first time in either of our lives. We started with an early church service, which was beautiful. Our neighbors were also home-bound without any family plans, so we had them over for dinner (wish I would have had my camera out while they were here). Scott made Prime Rib and we had a fabulous night hanging out with good friends (Kenjie and Karen and their kids Zoe and Ethan)!!! We then finished off the night by opening presents and preparing for Santa to come. Although not our typical Christmas Eve in Boise or McCall, it ended up being fantastic!

Pre-Christmas Festivities

The holidays just keep getting more fun as Jalen gets older! It's so fun for us as parents to see him experience new things and participate in all the holiday festivities. His daycare did a fantastic job on their annual holiday program/party and we were so proud of Jalen for singing all the songs and doing well on stage! He showed a lot of interest in Santa this year - although he liked him more from afar or while holding our hand. Our most favorite activity was taking Jalen to the Polar Express, where we got to see Santa once again. He loved watching the chefs sing Christmas carols, read us the Polor Express story, and of course serve us our cookies and hot cocoa. He made some new buddies on the train as well.

SANTA VISIT at BRIDGEPORT VILLAGE:
As we waited in line for Santa, Jalen was SO excited - saying with arms wide open, "Give big hugs to Santa...I want to see Santa..." Once it was our turn, Jalen ran to him with open arms, yet when Santa did the same and said his "ho,ho,ho," Jalen nearly wet his pants and didn't want anything to do with him. Needless to say, we never got a photo on Santa's lap. We ended up with a humorous photo of all of us squeezing onto his lap. Maybe next year.

Halloween was a ton of fun this year. Between my school, Jalen's school, and events with friends, we were busy with Halloween parties, trips to the pumpkin patch, and trick-or-treating. I just wish I had more pictures, but here are a few:

Jalen was a cowboy this year, but I couldn't get him to complete the outfit with his bandana...still pretty cute I would say.

We always love to have visitors in town! Bumpa, Nena, Uncle Devin, Auntie Annie, and cousins Ellie and Abby were here for the weekend. The boys took the kids to Eugene for the Univ. of Oregon game (tailgating) while the ladies had an opportunity to go shopping. I think it was a win-win for everyone. We then picked up the kids before the game started, which made for a long day after tailgating for awhile and driving back home. Thanks for a great weekend Pierces!

Harvest Century Ride

My dad came to Portland and did part of the Harvest Century Ride - Way To Go Dad!!! It's always nice to have him come visit. We had a great weekend just spending time together!

Labor Day Weekend

Congratulations to Cami and Joe Christen and to Michelle and Heiden Bliss!!! Both couples got married in McCall over Labor Day weekend. We were so excited to be able to celebrate with them! Michelle and Heiden's wedding was at a friend's beautiful ranch - perfect weather and SO much fun! Cami and Joe got married at Shore Lodge the following day - what a beautiful setting and lovely evening! Wishing both couples the very best in their future together.

Bike Ride With The Neighbors

We live very close to a shopping center called Bridgeport Village, which hosts a summer concert series. We've been riding our bikes a lot to different events around town. Tonight we decided to catch dinner and the concert with our neighbors. The kids had a particulary good time playing on the play structure and listening to the music.

Uncle Bradley came to visit us in Portland. It was SO nice to see him since we don't get to very often. Jalen had a blast playing with him and Rio was so happy to have his doggy cousin Leo over for the weekend. We kept ourselves busy with the zoo, the park, VooDoo Donuts, and just hanging out. Bradley also enjoyed a day of fishing at the coast.

Seattle

My dad was so kind to plan a trip in Seattle as a gift for Dawn's birthday and invite us all to join. We had an amazing weekend seeing some friends we know there, seeing all the usual Seattle sights, and of course watching the Red Sox play (just wish we could have seen some more wins). Thanks Papa for a great weekend!!!!!!

We spent the first night in Tacoma so that we could see Ed and Serena Nau and their three adorable kids - Anika, Eban, and Rosa Lee (Scott played football at PLU with Ed). Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the whole crew, but I was able to capture a quick one of Jalen and Rosie playing together. It was so good to see them, as it happens so rarely. I can't believe how much the kids change in one year!!

More Play Dates

We are really fortunate to have such a great group of mommies and kiddos that we get together with every so often. Last week we met up at a park in Lake Oswego to feed the ducks and play in the sand. This week we met up at a new park in Sherwood, which we loved!!! Jalen and the others couldn't get enough of the running water fall/sand/play area.

Lunch Break

Each year we head to McCall during the last week of July to enjoy family time and the annual McCall Amateur Golf Tournament. Skip and Dick Nelson had a successful year, as they both won their flights - Congrats. As usual, we had a great time just hanging around the cabin, playing on the lake, and watching the boys play golf. Here are a few pictures we captured:

We spent one of our evenings at Shore Lodge lounge, listening to a friend's band play. Jalen loved dancing to the music and got his first experience of shuffle board. He's a pro now.

Luckily we were able to spend a little extra time with Kaye and little Will - here's a picture of Will at the Spring Mountain Clubhouse pool. He is such a sweet, adventurous, and friendly little guy, wanting to jump in the pool and including Jalen in everything.

The Donaldsons were so kind to invite us over for some drinks and time around the campfire. Here's Scott, Ivan, and Bella.

To celebrate Jalen's 2nd birthday we had a bbq at our house with family and neighbors. It was a great success - all the kids LOVED it, which of course makes for happy and relaxed parents. Thank you to all that came to help us celebrate!!!!

The 2-year-old Birthday Boy!!!!

We can hardly believe that two years have gone by!!!! I can vividly remember the day we brought our little guy home from the hospital and never did we imagine how much happiness he would bring into our lives. We love him more and more every day and just can't get enough of him. He is such a sweet little boy, always wanting to cuddle and be around others. Jalen has always been one to take his time with new things and new people, but we're seeing more of an adventurous and independent side to him these days, which is so fun. He has developed a fascination with anything that has wheels or moves and is also crazy about sports. His new favorite is golf - he cries if we turn it off and will sit there imitating the pros on TV (he's been working on his back swing, which ends up being a swing of the club over his shoulder after he putts). Jalen is also our little book worm - he'll get a stack of books off the shelf and read them all to himself and would listen to us read to him for hours each night if we let him. We love hearing his funny little chuckle and silly little words fill our house. One thing he says these days in reference to himself is, "Jalen funny!!" We love you SO much little man - Happy Birthday!!!!!!

Jalen's birthday started with a little treat for breakfast - waffles with berries and whip cream. He was one happy boy, eating every bite. At Jalen's birthday party last year, he put the candle out with is poor little hand, so we were extra prepared this year and started practicing with every meal - he blew out the candles like a champ all day! We had a small celebration with all of Jalen's buddies at Connor's house (who also turned two this week). The kids had tons of fun playing together and indulging in cupcakes. We later took Jalen to ice cream with our neighbors, The Hutchins.

It's been a fairly cool summer and also a very busy one, so Jalen and I haven't had too many opportunities to make it to the pool. But we couldn't resist today - It was SO hot outside and we couldn't wait to jump in. Jalen went through swim lessons this spring and gets an opportunity to swim now and then, but he was still hesitant when we first got in. However, it didn't take long for him to warm up. It's fun to see him get more and more confident - even jumping off the edge and letting go of me a few times (with his wings on). I LOVE my lazy summer days with my little man!!!!

4th of July

We started our 4th of July festivities at our neighbors Chris and Catherine's house. We then met up with the Reinkes for a parade that went through their neighborhood (which started at my school). Jalen didn't want to ride in his wagon and Drew was a little hesitant to ride his bike (both of which were decked out with red, white and blue), but we had a great time and finished the evening with a fabulous BBQ and fireworks at the Reinkes.

Jalen and I had an opportunity to take one of his buddies, Hudson, to the park this week. They had such a great time playing together!!! You would think they were brothers they look so much alike. Here are a few shots of our morning together:

Happy Birthday To Us!!!!!

Scott and I share the same birthday, but some how I end up being the spoiled one year after year. He always finds some creative way to surprise me and do something special. This year he really out did himself!!!! I had a little hunch this year that he had something up his sleeve since it was my 30th, but never did I imagine this - on the actual day (June 16th) he surprised me with a babysitter, dinner, and tickets to Cirque du Soleil. We have been to a few shows in the past, but this one was by far the most amazing one!!!!!

Then, just when I thought my husband couldn't get any sweeter, he surprised me by arranging for all my friends to meet us in Sun River for a weekend. WOW - what an amazing gift!!!!!! I knew he had arranged for his parents to come watch Jalen and that we were going, but I honestly thought it was just the two of us. I was in total shock when we pulled up to a huge, beautiful cabin and saw Marni and Kory just chillin on the back patio. Then came our friends Derek and Amy with their little boy Drew. After a few hours of soaking this all in, I wasn't sure who to expect (if anyone). Then walked in Kaye, Mark, Annie, and Devin - what an awesome surprise. Scott made us dinner that night and we had a great time just catching up with everyone. While sitting on the patio the next morning (also eating a breakfast my incredible husband made) the surprises just kept flowing as my friends Adrienne and Kate walked in - "What???!!!!" I think my heart jumped out of my throat at that point. The girls enjoyed the rest of the day hanging out at the village while the men went golfing. We then met up for a great dinner. Unfortunately the weekend was too short, but what a gift to have all these great people in one place all to celebrate our birthday. A HUGE THANK YOU to my AMAZING husband for putting this all together (he's been planning it since February and I had no idea) and all of you that were able to make it. Also Happy Birthday to Kory who's actual birthday was the Sunday we were there (June 26th).

Scott's best friend from high school, Mark Mogensen, was in town from Chicago with his wife Erin and adorable new baby girl Grace Elizabeth. This is the second time we've been able to see them in the past few months and once again I forgot to bring my camera. We met up with them for breakfast at the Tin Shed in NE Portland (Yum!!!) before they had to head out. It was great to see you guys and little Grace - what beautiful little girl!!!

We got Scott a new putter for his birthday and I couldn't resist taking a few pics of Jalen testing the putters out himself. I don't have a picture of it, but he was picking up balls for another gentleman there, placing it in front of him, then giving him a nice golf clap saying, "good job" when he successfully hit it in the hole or gave him a courtesy "almost" if he missed. He was in heaven, which tells us he's due for a set of his own soon. He has his own little plastic set of clubs at home and he'll imitate the pro golfers on TV - it's hilarious!

Scott, Jalen, and I are excited to announce Baby Pierce #2 is on it's way!!! Expected due date: January 1, 2012 - New Years Baby!!! So far, this pregnancy has been so much more difficult than the first!!! I am feeling nauseous around the clock and really struggling to keep my energy level up, but I know it will end soon. I started feeling slightly better over the weekend and even managed to get a 30-minute run in on Saturday - it was a miracle! We are so excited to welcome this new addition to our family!

This memory immediately flashed in my mind as our sweet little neighbor Brookie knocked on our door today and asked, "can J play?" Too Cute!!!! Scott and I joined them on the walk back to their house, where we enjoyed a great playdate/visit with the Hutchins. (We are so blessed to have great neighbors, as we also enjoyed a very nice evening the night before with our neighbors Chris and Catherine. We took advantage of the sunny weather with a BBQ in our backyard).

Lewis and Clark Graduation

I was very fortunate to supervise an intern this year. Her name is also Katie, which made us quite the pair! She graduated today from Lewis and Clark College with her Masters in Counseling. I am so proud of her and know that she will do great things in this world!! Katie is also getting married this summer near her hometown of Boston, MA and will be settling down in Seattle, WA. Congrats Katie - you are well deserving!

Nena and Bumpa Came to Visit

Skip and Linda came to visit for the three-day weekend. Unfortunately the weather threw a wrench in some of our plans, but we still had a great time. We did a little shopping on Saturday and enjoyed dinner at home. Sunday was supposed to be the gorgeous sunny day, but ended up being cold and little rainy. We made the best of it and still ventured out to the Portland zoo. We took the zoo train that loops around the zoo and through Washington Park, which is so beautiful. Jalen was in heaven!!!!! He is starting to love anything that moves and has wheels. We also made sure to make it to one of Scott and I's favorite places - Montage for their famous mac n' cheese. Overall, it was a great weekend!

Addison's Baptism

My school has the most amazing volunteers in the community who help us out in SO many ways. They host different parent nights for us, coordinate lunch buddies for our students, and host an annual Bridgeport clean-up. Jalen came with me this year and did awesome!! We started the Easter festivities at an egg hung in Lake Oswego with some friends. It was nice to have the area sectioned off by age, but it was still crazy!! The whole event lasted maybe 3 minutes and each kid was lucky to get one egg. Jalen didn't care - he had a blast and was just happy to see his friends. We then "hopped" over to an Easter egg hunt/party at Jalen's daycare. We had tons of fun and filled Jalen up with enough sugar that he crashed for a nearly 4 hour nap! We then joined our friends Chris and Catherine for brunch after church on Sunday.

We had a very eventful weekend in Boise! We celebrated Abby's 1st birthday (actual B-day: April 7) and baptism. Luckily we were in town long enough to see Ayden's first baseball game Saturday morning. He did an awesome job in all aspects of the game - we are very proud of him!! Devin and Annie hosted a great party at their house on Saturday night for Abby. I can't believe she is already one-year-old!!!! Skip and Linda then hosted brunch after the baptism on Sunday (I currently don't have a single picture of the actual baptism, but will be adding some soon).

Scott and I are so honored and excited to be Abby's new God Parents - thank you Devin and Annie for giving us this privilege!

Papa made a very special trip to Portland to visit and deliver Jalen's Christmas gifts that couldn't make the original trip on the plane. Jalen was SOOO excited to see Papa!! He went right to him with open arms and couldn't get enough of Papa. Here are a few pics we captured over the weekend:

My school has a night we call, Love Your Heart Night. It's a night to promote healthy living and exercise. There are several stations set up around the school for Zumba Dancing, running, rope climbing, Kickboxing, Yoga, stretching, etc. I wish I had some better pictures of the evening...what I have doesn't show what a big event it was and I missed a lot of shots of Jalen getting involved with the kids.

Oregon Basketball

We were invited to join Scott's Uncle Ron and Aunt Sue in Eugene for a University of Oregon basketball game. U of O has a beautiful new arena that is unbelievable. It was so fun to spend time with them and to see Jalen's enthusiasm throughout the game. It was non-stop, "Where's the duck! Where's the duck!?" from Jalen. Thank you Ron and Sue for a great day in Eugene!!

We all went out to dinner after the game and joined Sue's son Shawn, his wife Peggy, and girls Chandler, Parker, and Taylor. It was so nice to meet up with everyone. The restaurant had a Mary-Go-Round for the kids to enjoy - Jalen was a little hesitant about it this time.

Jalen and Rio have become quite the little buds. Every morning and night Jalen insists on including Rio in a family hug or kiss and always turns to Rio to give "knuckles." When we pull into the driveway, he yells "Riooooo!" Jalen loves to follow Rio around and include him in whatever he is doing. However, there are definitely times when Rio is in his way and boy will Jalen let him have it..."Rio-NO, NO!" Rio has been known to knock Jalen over, which he can typically take and even laughs a little. I always say they are like siblings - they LOVE being with each other, but definitely have to be separated sometimes. Memorial Day Weekend

We had a really fun and relaxing three-day weekend, including a trip to the Portland Zoo. Going to the zoo with Jalen is getting more and more fun each time! He can now name several animals and make their sound. He was fascinated with the elephant this time and of course loved the monkeys, fish, and birds. I will download a video soon of Jalen lifting his arm and copying the elephant as we watched him eat.

Mommy's Little Helper

Trader Joe's has little carts just for kids. I figured Jalen was big enough to push it a little and just crossed my fingers he wouldn't ram into someone's heels or knock a pile of apples over.
I was pleasantly surprised to see he pushed the cart around with ease, missing any collisions with people or objects, and even went through the isles picking out items and putting them in his cart. He'd pick out a few things, then push the cart like he knew what he was looking for next, put the next item in and move forward. Super cute!!

We were very fortunate to be on vacation long enough to join my friend Kaycee's baby shower and to bring in the new year with our friends in McCall.

We started out the evening at Toll Station for pizza and made our way to the Prince/Donaldson cabin for drinks and dessert. Thank you Stephanie for hosting us all and organizing a great evening!! On New Years Day we (Ivan, Stephanie, Ramsey, Kyle, Jason, Scott, and I) endured the freezing 6 degree temps and went skiing for the day. Although bitterly cold - it was a perfectly sunny day and full of fun skiing with friends!

My Dad and Dawn came to McCall for a day of skiing and to hang out. Unfortunately it was the day after Jalen was not feeling well, so we had to partake in some indoor activities. Mountain Monet is an adorable place in McCall where you can paint ceramics and take them home at a later date. Hanging out with an 18 month old in a place surrounded with breakables is not the most ideal scenario, but Jalen had a great time painting and making a mess!!

We love spending Christmas at the cabin with all the snow, family, and fun! We attended the evening service at church and enjoyed a fabulous dinner with the Chandlers (Scott's aunt/uncle/cousins). The Pierce's have a tradition of opening up gifts Christmas Eve, but with the busy evening and all the excitement of kids running around everyone was way too tired to accomplish anything after dinner. Santa came and spoiled everyone the next morning. It was so nice to just relax and enjoy Christmas day in our PJs. However, the flu bug hit the cabin that night, which put 6 out of 9 people under the weather - not fun at all!!

Trip to Boise

On our way to Boise - Jalen has traveled quite a bit in his 18 months...he knows just what to do and wants to help like a big boy now:

We had a great time visiting family in Boise, unfortunately our trips are always WAY too short. In addition to some of the photos below, we visited GG (Katie's grandma), Grandma, Justie, Arianna, and Abbey, but somehow we left without getting any pictures from those visits. It was great visiting everyone!

Papa made Jalen the most beautiful wagon we have ever seen. The second Jalen saw it - he ran and shouted with excitement to get in. He loves it!!!

Scott went on a four-day golf trip to Bandon Dunes with his dad, brother, and Uncle. They stayed for the Oregon vs. Washington game - Go Ducks!! Annie and I took advantage of the time together, by getting a babysitter and shopping all day with Scott's cousin Steph. We had a great time!! The weekend ended with a trip to the Children's Museum, which is one of our new favorite places...there is so much to do that we haven't even begun to see it all in our two visits.

Happy Halloween

We had a great Halloween weekend filled with parties, football, and friends. Friday night was Jalen's daycare party as well as the Fall Festival at my school. We managed to squeeze them both in. It was a lot for J, but he had a great time playing with his friends and partaking in all the activities.

On Saturday, Jalen and Daddy went to the Lewis & Clark vs. Pacific Lutheran game with Derek and little Drew. (Scott coached at LC and graduated from PLU). Jalen loves watching football and had a great time with the guys!!

On Sunday, we met some friends at Bridgeport Village, where the kids got to trick-or-treat at all the stores. It was good practice for Jalen, as he was still trying to figure out the whole "trick-or-treat" routine. We ended the night with some trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. Each time the door opened he thought it was an open invitation to let himself in and hang out, which was hilarious. He got the hang of putting the candy in his bag and got a kick out of eating a piece when we got home. Pretty fun!!

Pumpkin Patch

We took advantage of two nearby pumpkin patches this weekend. We went to Fir Point on Saturday with several of Jalen's (and Mommy & Daddy's) buddies and then had a great Sunday afternoon at Bagenstos Farm with our neighbor/friends, the Hutchins. Unfortunatly our camera battery died before the second farm. We are always in awe that we can drive just a mile away from our house and be in the most beautiful rural area. We are surrounded by gorgeous wineries, farms, and open spaces.

Football Season

Football season is in full force at the Pierce household. It starts when the sun rises on Saturday morning and continues until...well, it's never ending. We met up with the Reinkes to watch the local rival teams of Tigard High School vs Tualatin High School. The boys had a blast playing togeter and watching all the action.

What a Big Boy!!

What happen to our little baby - he's growing up SO fast!!! Jalen just amazes us every day with all that he is learning and taking in! We now understand why people refer to young children as little "sponges." He's also becoming VERY independent and wanting to try everything. Jalen can point out a number of things if you ask him, such as dog, duck, boat, fish, eyes, nose, ears, etc. and understands simple instructions. What a fun age!! Here are several pictures over the last few weeks of Jalen being more independent and wanting to help around the house.

Jalen loves helping mommy water the plants (by himself of course). Even when the water is not on, he'll put the spout in the flowers for a moment, move on to the next plant, hold it for awhile like he's watering, then move on to the next one.

We decided to explore some new trails near Mt. Hood and discovered a nice loop around Trillium Lake. It was just right for Jalen and Rio and was so beautiful. It was a great start to our Labor Day weekend.

On The Road Again

We made another trip to Idaho and had a great time visiting family and friends. We were happy to help celebrate the weddings of Jen King to Mark Rice and Kate Van Ravenhorst to Tom Henwood. Congratulations to both couples!! Jalen and Mommy took advantage of our week in Idaho to visit friends we hadn't seen for some time. One of my close college friends, Marni and her little Ella Jane drove down from Coeur d'Alene to meet us in McCall for a few days. We enjoyed hanging out on the beach, morning walks, trips to town, and just catching up! Back in Boise, Jalen and I had a great time meeting up with Stephanie and Elliot at Monkey Bizness, which is an indoor play gym. We were quite amused with the gigantic slide, which sends you flying down and barelling into the padded barrier. Needless to say you have to put all pride aside, as there is nothing graceful about it. Elliot kept saying "more," "more slide." We also got the chance to spend some extra time with Kaye and her boy, Will. He's such a happy boy!!! At a pre-wedding brunch it was fun to see other college friends and their little ones...it's amazing how quickly they all change!

More summer time fun

Jalen and I continue to enjoy our time just hanging out and enjoying the lazy summer. We've been going to story time at the library, more visits to the zoo, enjoying play dates with other kiddos, walks/runs, frequent visits to the park, watching daddy play softball, and riding around on his new favorite tricycle. Here are a few pictures from the past week.

McCall

Every year we look forward to our week in McCall for the McCall Amateur Golf Tournament. We get to spend time relaxing, water skiing, cliff jumping (not us...but the Nelson's were brave), trail running, playing on the beach, lots of golfing for the boys, and of course great family time. The Pierces have met up in McCall with their close friends, The Nelsons, for years and the tradition still continues. It's always great to see them all! Papa came to visit for a day...he took Jalen for a bike ride up to Ponderosa Point, which Jalen loved! I just wish we had pictures of it. We were sad to leave and are already counting down the days until our next McCall trip!!

It was so fun to see Jalen and cousin Ellie interact with each other all weekend. Jalen couldn't get enough of Ellie and she started mimicking all of his mannerisms...including his bull-legged walk and "ya-ya" gibberish. Too cute!!!

Drew is turning 2!!!!! We were so bummed that we were going to miss Drew's big birthday bash, but luckily we were able to meet up for a great afternoon at the park. We discovered a new water park for the boys to enjoy in West Linn. Drew and Jalen loved it. Happy Birthay Little D!!!
